Founded in 2007, SchoolTipline, Inc. is a software company focused on fostering school climates of open communication and learning. SchoolTipline provides technologies that empower students and administrators with information to improve their schools.
Students are bullied everyday in school. They need help and they will communicate with teachers and administrators if they can do so without experiencing increased victimization from the bully. Research has shown that students will use an anonymous, online system to report bullying and other problems. SchoolTipline makes this kind of reporting possible, and thus hopes to increase the number of student reports on incidents such as bullying. Additionally,
- Administrators can use surveys and reports to gather data about the kinds of incidents that are actually happening in their schools.
- Administrators can use mass email and text message to alert students, teachers, and parents at any time about safety concerns or other issues or notifications.
Specifically, SchoolTipline’s mission is to accomplish the following things in order to improve school safety and education:
Empower Students
SchoolTipline allows students to feel safe reporting incidents such as school violence. Students will break down the culture of silence and become the eyes and ears of safety when empowered with anonymous communication and the ability to report using methods they prefer such as the Web or text message.
Build Trust between Students and Administrators
SchoolTipline provides a perfect tool for students to feel safe reporting and for administrators to resolve problems in a way that builds trust with students. Students want to use a non-institutional third party to reach out to people they know, such as a school counselor, teacher, safety officer or principal. Administrators can use SchoolTipline to respond effectively to student reports about school violence. Possible frivolous or fake reporting should be prevented. Students can remain 100 percent anonymous unless the situation threatens life.
Facilitate Collaboration
SchoolTipline helps to open up communication lines. Besides giving students a way to report, SchoolTipline also provides a secure, central system for management and investigation of reports and a system for reports and trends to be tracked. In this way, schools can gather powerful data on which they can base future school programs and policies.
